Brevard Soil and Water Conservation District Minutes

The Brevard Soil and Water Conservation District met in regular session on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at 4:00 p.m., in the 4-H Conference Room, UF/IFAS Extension Brevard County, 3695 Lake Dr, Cocoa, Florida.

The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Bud Crisafulli, at 4:00 p.m.

Board members present were: Bud Crisafulli; Henry Minneboo; Adam Perez; Jonathan Schuman; and James Sloan.

Staff members present were: Walter Albarran; Mike Engelgau; Chuck O’Rourke; and Joe Walter.

Approval of July 10, 2019, Minutes

Motion by Henry, seconded by Adam, to approve the minutes of July 10, 2019. The vote passed unanimously (James absent).

Approval of Treasurer’s Report for the Period of July 10, 2019 – September 17, 2019

Motion by Henry, seconded by Jonathan, to approve Treasurer’s report as presented. The vote passed unanimously (James absent).

New Business

Jonathan provided the Board with a summary on the 2019 Association of Florida Conservation Districts state meeting in Ocala and submitted to the Board the expenses he incurred to attend the meeting. Motion by Henry, seconded by James, to reimburse Jonathan for expenses incurred to attend the 2019 Association of Florida Conservation Districts state meeting in Ocala, totaling $486.84. The vote passed unanimously.

Chuck discussed with the Board the annual reading and signing of the Civil Rights Responsibilities for Partners Checklist. All the Board members in attendance signed the document.

Chuck and Walter provided the Board with an update on the current status of the Natural Resources Conservation Service programs.

Mike informed the Board that he received a public records request directed towards the Board, which he forwarded to Brevard County who will then respond to the request on behalf of the Board.

James handed out a Florida Today newspaper article on the use of biosolids on local agricultural lands.

Joe presented to the Board the project proposal titled “Lake Washington Phosphorous Sources Determination”, which proposes a soil and water sampling program to assist in the identification of sources of nutrients in Brevard County waterways. Motion by James, seconded by Jonathan, to provide financial and public support for the program. The vote passed unanimously.

Upon consensus of the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 5:04 p.m.
